Background

Who am I

My name is Emin Baladjaev, born on 13th October, 2004, and I'm 21 years old. Currently living in Hesse, Germany, I speak German as my native language, English fluently, and Russian at a conversational level. At the time of writing this article, I am looking for a position as a software engineer. If you are interested in getting to know me better, I look forward to hearing from you at emin-b@gmx.de.

In my free time, I (used to) purse the following interests:

  • Running (2024 - today)
  • Chess (2008 - today)
  • Piano (2010 - 2020)
  • Clarinet (2015 - 2018)
  • Table tennis (2014 - 2017)

Apart from that, I occasionally play video games, compose my own music and read books. I also like to tinker in other IT-related fields like UI-/UX-Design and Pentesting.

Beginnings in software engineering

My interest in software engineering has began to spark around 2013/2014 when I was 9 years old; having been exposed to video games on the Nintendo DS/Wii and computers in general at the time made me realize that computers were something magical that we humans can instruct to make our daily lifes easier and create worlds that we can immerse ourselves in. Coincidentally, I got my hand on two books at that time (Java 5 Kompendium, PHP 5.1/MySQL 5 für Schnelleinsteiger), which led to me studying both of them in my free time and programming my first Java (with Swing) and XAMPP-Stack applications. Shortly after, I discovered the possibility of jailbreaking my Nintendo Wii to extend its functionality beyond its intended purposes: With the ability to install third-party apps, I came across DOSBox and installed the QuickBASIC 4.5 compiler/IDE. This was a significant and defining phase for me where I wrote a bunch of QuickBASIC applications and games, learning the programming language through the integrated documentation with almost no access to internet. I was fortunately able to backup my old work from the SD card which you can find here.

In the next years, I have worked as a Java plugin developer in medium-sized Minecraft servers until around 2018; this was my first exposure to working collaboratively in teams and solving problems for actual users instead of just programming random things for fun. Around that time, I also got my first game development experiences that go beyond QuickBASIC games: in 2016 at 12 years old, I created a website where I presented my first Unity3D game. After that period, I took programming much more seriously and developed a significant amount of projects for various communities and personal growth in different domains: I was regularly and voluntarily joining existing projects with teams behind them, consequently adapting to existing codebases, implementing complementary tools and features, learning from better programmers and proposing suggestions. Up to this day, I am regularly creating things, reading blogs and books, and following the newest advancements in technology.

Open-Source Involvement

Although the vast majority of my projects is private, I have occasionally published on GitHub and also contributed to other projects voluntarily. Here is a small list of my occasional contributions that I have issued in the past in various domains:
